ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
AUSTRALIAN COBBERDOG SMOOTH COAT
Unfortunately we have suspended our breeding and research with the smooth coats, the time, dedication and numbers of dogs we would need to strive for perfection is just not possible, we would need to do a lot more breeding, more litters more puppies, this would leave us less time to do what we do so well. We will on occasion likely have a smooth coat puppy but we will not accept orders.
For many years I was guilty of thinking as current breeders still do, that the smooth coat was a failure, we were so focused on long silky non shedding coats.
Time and again my smooth coats were desexed and became wonderful family members,
Then the availability of coat DNA genetic testing became available and smooth coats were retained for breeding as they consistently produce the long finely textured coat we were wanting. over and again we proudly hand over our glorious creations to families only to see their long coats cut short within a few short months.
Over recent years we have noticed a distinct genetic relation between the smooth coat and its above normal intuitive incredibly wise gentle nature. Tegan dogs and now Ridgy Didge dogs are famed world wide for their amazing versatile canine therapist temperaments but the smooth coats are proving to be special really special and absolutely consistent in all our bloodlines.
As of 2018 we have pledged to devote extensive research and development of the smooth coat we are so exhited about its future.
As newborns they look just like their long coat counterparts but at 4 to 5 weeks the first sign is a beautiful velvet face at 8 to 16 or so weeks they are cute and funny looking except for their amazing tell tale eyes even at a precious tender 8 weeks of age they have a soulful wise expresion, calm and kind you almost feel your heart beat drop lower.
The texture of their coats is not like most regular hair coat breeds they retain a single coat and it is moist and silky fleece textured like the long coats are [should be]

Shedding: Yes they do, well some say yes and others say no but technically yes they do, low to moderate in most instances. If you have lived with a Poodle and you compared you will say yes they shed, if you have lived with a Shepherd or a Labrador you will say no or hardly at all! Allergies: At this stage feedback is very mixed some having no problems and others reacting the same as with other dogs. Our opinion over all is to recommend no, if you have animal allergies choose a long coat. Intelligence: Wow 5* all the way, amazing direct eye contact, very perceptive of your moods and health, Joyful athletic and eager to learn anything from silly fun tricks to complex tasks, They really become intune with you and can smooch with you in front of the TV all day or go mountain climbing whatever you do is what they want to do. Temperament: Gentle and kind, social with all creachers they are raised with, friendly and submissive with other dogs, friendly and sometimes slightly reserved [not the jump all over you love you mr stranger] with other people but warmly loyal to their family, Medium to low puppy mischief maturing quite early 12 to 14 months of age . Their one desire in life is to be a part of your life but will accept long working hours at home along, they do need things like a radio on for company and interactive toys to protect against boredom as does any dog. They need to be included in the family as soon as you get home. Children: Again a big wow 5* they are absolutely wonderful and can adjust their behaviour around each child brilliant with special needs children. Coat care: Very easy no clipping required, good clean open ear canals rarely ever suffer from infections, like all dogs ear cleaner and a wipe once a month. Grooming, brush and comb once a month or two from 12 months of age, but we recommend weekly when puppies to learn good manners PLEASE NOTE: The description of the Smooth coat is derived from 3 decades of TEGAN bloodlines you need to do your own extensive research if your chosen breeder is not Tegan. |
Although they are all Tegans bloodlines they are not all related but you can see the 100% CONSISTENCY
